Ready for Round Two

"Palmyra mother of two Julia Gilbert is ready to shop. With her $320 cash prize from winning the recent Applecross Community Weight Loss Challenge, she is looking forward to buying a new winter wardrobe.

While she did not achieve her actual weight loss goal in this challenge, what she didnÕt expect was the amount of body fat percentage and centimetres of body circumference she lost Ð a stunning 24 cm. ÒI realised that exercising meant gaining muscle, not necessarily losing many kilos,Ó said Ms Gilbert. ÒMy body shape changed a lot and now I move with much more ease, I have muscle, IÕm fitter and healthier and I feel good.Ó Ms Gilbert originally joined the Challenge to re-commit to regular exercising and because it would be a good way to meet people within the community. She believed that the momentum of the group would help her stick to her goals. ÒI always knew that Monday was weigh-in day and that kept me motivated, accountable and on track,Ó she said. ÒIt was good to be surrounded by like-minded people who faced the same challenges, and the friendships and laughs were a great bonus. The encouragement and support was invaluable.Ó

With the next Challenge starting next week, Ms Gilbert is ready for round two. ÒIÕve continued losing weight since the last Challenge so I am motivated, focused and ready for the next one.Ó She has also found that sharing her newly acquired knowledge from the Challenge teaching-sessions has helped her family, friends and colleagues. ÒItÕs a great way of giving back to the community. I think most people want to be healthier and this is the best place to start.Ó The next Community Weight Loss Challenge will start Monday, 12 April in the Applecross RSL Hall and enrolement are open now.
